Another day on perfectly paved bike trail. No interesting lunch stops. A VERY steep hill right at the end of the ride. Len, that animal, made it to the top without getting off his bike. (Too be fair Jim was carrying the kitchen sink; Len did not even pack an extra power cord.) Jim took one look and got off at the bottom of the hill instead of risking falling off the bike halfway up when he ran out of gas. Walking turned out to be almost as fast as riding. It was brutal.
After a short but steep downhill, we arrived at the Best Western Plus Inn and Suites by the Falls. There were falls but you had to look carefully to see them. We saw mergansers fishing the falls. Jim approached the front desk, providing his last name and announcing that we had a reservation. Nope! No reservation for Lawrie. How can that be, I asked? I have a confirmation right here. Oh, that’s for tomorrow night (little wonder the guy in Mahopac couldn’t find our reservation). Turns out that when I set up my spreadsheet detailing the trip, the dates I used were departure dates, not arrival dates. Every reservation I made for the entire trip was one day late! We were able to secure a room at the Best Western and as soon as we got set up in the room, I changed every reservation for the rest of the trip. We weren’t able to get a reservation in Hudson, the next night’s stay. In fact, we ended up 10 miles west of Hudson in the town of Catskill at the Red Ranch Inn (more on that tomorrow). In addition, the place we were going to stay in Littleton, NH was full on the night we would be there, but I was able to find a room at another motel in the same town.
